SIR FRANK WHITTLE: An important collection of "Whittle Jet Engine" memorabilia. Including: a reel to reel tape showing one of the first ever jet engine speed trials, a report on "The Development of the Whittle Jet Engine", by WA Randalls, an extensive collection of original photographs of the jet engine, Whittle and his team and a collection of newspaper cuttings. See illustrations Sir Frank Whittle designed and invented the first jet engine. He left school at the age of 15 to become an RAF apprentice and engineer scientist. He developed the jet engine between the age of 18 and 23, the original aircraft is now in the Science Museum. Provenance: The family of Mr W.A.
