[Manuscript notebook written during a 16-week course at the Royal Navy I.C.E. School / Frank E. Poole. Covers every aspect of the working, care and maintenance of marine internal combustion engines - both petrol and diesel - including engines made by Paxman, Lister, Perkins, Packard, Hall Scott, Gray Marine, Gardner and Benz. Gearboxes, batteries, lubrication, fuel, cooling and ignition systems, submarine fuel systems etc are also covered. Profusely illustrated with many coloured cut-away drawings and diagrams. Stamped and signed by the Engineer Officer in Charge, ICE School with comment 'Excellent work. This is probably the best notebook ever produced during the 16-week course']

The apprenticeship was in conjunction with release to the O.N.C. mechanical engineering course at Hackney Technical College. Includes sections on lathes, drills, welding, files. Bears numerous pencil illustrations, and includes tipped-in xeroxed information sheets]
