'An Account of the Primitive Tribes & Monuments of the Nilagiris'. This photographically illustrated book, by James Wilkinson Breeks, is one of the earliest uses of field photography to illustrate an anthropological work. It was published posthumously and was edited by Breeks' widow (see the inscription on the title page). It had been suggested previously that the Todas 'tribe' from the south of India, who were the subject of this anthropological study, were one of the lost tribes of Israel.
