Walschaerts radial valve motion (right hand side) from 0-4-4-0T double Fairlie locomotive 'Snake', No. 238 Class 'B', built by Avonside Engine Co., Bristol, 1874 for Otago Provincial Council, New Zealand, believed to be one of the first locomotives to be built in Great Britain with Walschaert's valve gear, after a boiler accident in c.1881 the valve gear and cylinders were incorporated into a steam crane.
