On the first page is the following: 'Started Crewe Works July 1902 as Premium apprentice and went through Bolt shop, fitting shop, erecting shops. 6 months at tech schoolManchester during apprenticeship. Commenced as Mr Whale's pupil September 26 '04' After the last entry is: 'continued at Loco Drawing Office for a short period and then exchanged into the Electric Dept Drawing Office under Mr Thompson.
