7 16mm film reels, according the information on some of the film cardboard boxes, the films were likely made by the British Railways Executive Research Engineering Division in Derby and possibly BRER, Liverpool Street station. 3 films feature test on tracks filmed apparently via a hole in the floor of a wagon or carriage. These 3 films seem to be part of a same series of test. 1 film features track laying with machine and railway workers. 1 film (negative) may represent Barking station and/or Paddington according note on the cardboard (construction of Barking station booking hall in 1959-1961?), also features electric trains/electrified lines. 1 film features work on a bridge. 1 film (negative) shows an overhead water tank or coal hopper.

Ambulance men with LMS hat on proceeding to evacuation of casualties in the debris of a demolished house, man trapped under debris. Captions: 1. Perseverance rewarded. The casualty shrews signs of recovery. 2. One man is still missing. He may be under the collapsed flooring. 3. No good. It's still debris behind here. 4. We'll try cutting through here. 5. The casualty is found, trapped under a rolled steel joist. 6. Note the corrugated iron sheet used to protect the casualty from sparks.

Reel likely made of compiled duplicate and offcuts of other air raid precaution films. 500 feet on 800 feet plastic canister (approximately 14 minutes). Starts with paper in typewriter, visible text (caption 1), camera shots of damaged tracks, signs 'danger gas', men wearing respirators while working on the damaged tracks. Captions: 1. (typewriter) From Divisional Control, Glasgow. Line damaged by H.E bomb and contaminated by gas between Ryeland and Drumclog at 7.38am. Light engine No.14330 Strathaven to Darvel in crater. Specially equipped engineers and breakdown trains ordered. Driver and fireman seriously injured. 2. The G.S.O has now permitted hoods to be taken off. 3. Note that at this stage men are able to work without respirators as the contaminated area has been covered with fresh ashes.

16mm original film, colour footage edited with splices, descriptive captions and explanatory drawings. 700 feet on 800 feet plastic canister (approximately 20 minutes). Last part (end reel) according captions. Protective measures for lunchbreak, keeping working without respirators when vapour concentration has reduced, and how everything is sorted once the job is completed, how tools are cleaned, what safety measures to follow and how the site is left behind when the train leaves. Captions: 1. Sections continue to work and rest alternately till it is time for a meal. 2. Hoods and respirators are removed as before. 3. Instead of entering the rest hut, the men pass on to the A.R.P Unit for the removal of their gloves, jackets, boots and leggings. 4. The contaminated oilskin clothing is hung on the numbered rails on the side of the coach, while the boots and gloves are placed alongside the numbered pegs. 5. The men now pass into the Unit, collect their civilian boots, wash and have their meal. 6. At the end of the mealtime the men, in their respective shifts, hand back their civilian boots, are re-dressed, and return to work. 7. From time to time during the day, the G.S.O tests the vapour concentration. 8. The time has now arrived when he decides that the vapour concentration is sufficiently reduced for the next shift to return to work without respirators. 9. The job finished, the section then working, clear all the tools and equipment from the site for decontamination. 10. One man removes his gloves and prepares swabs of cotton waste dipped in paraffin and wrung almost dry. 11. Tools are decontaminated - metal parts being wiped with the paraffin swabs (changed frequently) - and wooden parts brushed with bleach cream. 12. Contaminated swabs are collected together and burned. 13. In the meantime the remainder of the working sections have their protective clothing removed and enter the train for the journey home. 14. The Utility section sorts out the contaminated clothing, packs it into bins and loads these into the wagon provided for the purpose. 15. They then re-load all the equipment ready for the return journey. 16. The train, re-marshalled departs for home, leaving behind a notice warning others of the danger which still exists. 17. The End

Part 2 according to opening caption. ARP unit, GSO unit and DE unit are featured, also explanatory drawing, process and safety measures before work starts, how the protective gear is put on, the GSO on site before ARP team, then the repairing train arriving on site, and the units are separated and set at a safe distant from the contaminated area. Captions: 1. Part II - Repairing the damage. 2. The District Engineer (D.E) and Area Technical Assistant of the Signal & Telegraph Department (A.T.A), with the GAS Safety Officer (G.S.O), approach the site to view the extent of the damage. 3. It is decided that the Special Repair Train is necessary. 4. During the journey the first working section change into protective clothing 5. Soon after leaving the depot the Storekeeper issues combinations, socks, and special suits to the Permanent Way men and then to the S&T men in an adjoining vehicle. 6. Towards the end of the journey the men, assisted by dressers, put on oilskins and gumboots. 7. As the train approaches the site the dressing is completed by the addition of respirators and hoods. 8. The G.S.O determines and indicates the liquid and vapour danger areas. 9. He lights a smoky fire to warn him of any change of wind direction during the day. 10. The Repair Train arrives and is pushed up close to the crater. 11. The A.R.P unit is uncoupled from the ballast train and drawn clear of the danger zone

May include offcuts and duplicate footage of other ARP film reels. 600 feet on 800 feet plastic canister (approximately 17 minutes). Beginning and end of break signalled by the Timekeeper. Procedures followed when workers from the contaminated go on a break (they are relieved every 30 minutes), with the help of warden and dressers, and the other workers (S&T) take they break 15 minutes after the others to spread the work of the dressers. Miscellaneous footage after GREEN LEADER. Captions: 1. After each 30 minutes, at a signal from the Timekeeper, the section at work is relieved by the one then resting. 2. It is important always to place the tools against the tool horse, when not in use, in order to avoid unnecessary contamination of the handles. 3. The Warden sees that all men pass through the bleach tray on leaving the contaminated area. 4. The dressers thoroughly rub anti-gas ointment No.2 into their hands before attending to men from the contaminated area. 5. Before going to the rest hut the men have their hoods and respirators removed by the dressers. 6. The respirators are wiped out and re-anti-dimmed. 7. Work still goes on at the site. 8. The S&T sections change shifts 15 minutes after the Permanent Way sections in order to spread the work of the dressers. 9. The Timekeeper calls the men to re-dress for another shift. GREEN LEADER.
