Depicts the construction of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway at Edge Hill. A locomotive hauls a train of wagons filled with spoil on a steep sided cutting, as a train on the opposite track recedes into the distance. High above navvies hack at the rock with pickaxes. Plate 3 in the series Coloured Views on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. Published by R Ackermann, 96 Strand, London. February 1831.
