Large silver travelling or coach watch by William Knottesforde, London, c.1680. Silver case, the back engraved with the conversion of St. Paul, and the edge pierced and engraved in pattern of flowers and foliage. Bell set into the inside back of the case. Silver dial formed of concentric rings. The outer ring is gilt and engraved; then a ring for the days of the month, highlighted with red wax; then a gilt turning ring with steel pointer; then a silver hour circle, with engraved inner border filled in with red wax; then a silver alarm disc with steel pointer for the hour circle. The centre is engraved with a flower wreath and central sunflower. Steel hour hand with long tail. Movement with striking and going trains and verge escapement. Silver count-wheel engraved with sunflower and filled in with red wax. The balance spring is of 1 1/4 turns. Worm-and-wheel regulation with silver dial. Signed ‘William Knottesforde, London’.
