This Lightfoot ammonia refrigeration compressor was made in 1918 by the Lightfoot Refrigeration Company Limited, based in Fareham, Hampshire. This large 17 ½” bore x 34” stroke double acting compressor runs at around 300 rpm, and is attached via flat/rope belt to a Siemens 265 hp electric motor. The complete machinery takes up around 11 feet by 30 feet, and 16 feet tall, totalling at 28 tons.

This Haslam ammonia compressor was built between 1894 and 1900 by Derby-based Haslam Foundry & Engineering Company. The compressor was later purchased second hand and installed at the Union Cold Storage, Alexandra Dock, Liverpool, in 1930. This small single action reciprocating ammonia compressor takes up approximately 1 metre square of space and is around 2 metres tall.

This compressor is a part of an air conditioning plant room. This type 4 Freon-based air conditioning system was built between 1964 and 1967 by L Sterne and Company Limited, an engineering company based in Glasgow. This air conditioning plant was installed at 7 Rolls Building, Fetter Lane, London.

Donkey compressor, motor with three chambers and a cylindrical protrusion on the bottom chamber. Plastic tubes attached at various points. Pressure gauge at one end. Two visible canvas belts, one partially protected at the top by a mesh cage. Motor is mounted to I-beams and large wooden blocks. Attaches to receiving tank.
