Jeffree cell light modulator used in the innovative Scophony television system, 1934. Developed by J. H. Jeffree in 1934, it was a major improvement over the Kerr cell both in efficiency and ease of operation. As much as 200 times more modulated light was available at the screen because of its ability to store image elements. This is believed to be the only surviving example of an original Jeffree cell.
