Notebooks, paper, with buckram-covered card covers, rail enthusiast notebooks of Paul Holmes, 1965 to 1967. Three of the notebooks contain numbered 'logs' of journeys, mainly on BR (Southern Region) behind Bullied Pacifics, but also some specials including a journey behind Flying Scotsman (Log 173, autographed by Alan Pegler when he gave a talk at the donor's school). Logs consist of timings, stops, loco details, number of coaches and frequently the driver's name. They run from 10 July 1965 to 16 April 1967. There is one notebook of duplicated logs, one of mileage done by Bullied Pacifics, and a spotting notebook from various trips. The notebooks have cuttings from railway magazines inserted, and other entries such as a list of named Brush Type 4 diesels.

Louis (i.e. Johan Georg Louis, 1823-1898, later worked as a locomotive designer in Stuttgart; Hans worked as a chemist for J.H. Darby at Brymbo ironworks, N. Wales. Carroll, Dewsbury Junction & Wakefield Carriage & Wagon Depot, later Carriage & Wagon superintendent, Knottingley depot, circa 1940s to 1983. 4 manuscript notesbooks: 1. Notes on wagon types, codes, coaching stock and parts, materials etc., dates from pre-nationalisation when Mr. Carroll was at Dewsbury Junction & Wakefield Carriage & Wagon Depot; 2. Condemned Wagons, contains details and dates of condemned wagons 1974-1975; 3. pocket book containing notes on wagons, movements, repairs, accidents etc. 1981; 4. notebook containing simialr details of wagons, derailments etc. 1983. Accompanied by a set of colour snapshots of wagon derailments, some of which are identified and can be related to entries in the notebooks.

[Collection of mathematical notebooks of M.M.U. Wilkinson. ca.1851-1916. Wilkinson was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, and was fellow and assistant tutor 1855-1865. He was rector of Reepham St. Mary near Norwich from 1864. The books, some of which contain loose sheets, include notes and worked problems from his Cambridge studies in the 1850s; Senate House and other examination problems, 1861-65; draft essay for Adams Prize, 1869; commentaries on mathematical books and papers; investigations into elliptic functions, spherical functions, Gauss's series and quaternions, ca.1870-1910. They also include some elementary work by his daughters, Maud and Geraldine, in the 1880s. 68 vols. Listing available]
