Portfolio of forty four colour prints selected from the exhibition 'Open for Business', toured by arts agency Multistory and Magnum Photos during 2014. Photographs by David Hurn, Martin Parr, Chris Steele-Perkins, Peter Marlow, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Jonas Bendiksen and Mark Power. 'Open for Business' aimed to document the contemporary state of British manufacturing. Nine Magnum photographers were commissioned, to work one in each of nine British cities or regions. The Norwegian photographer, Jonas Bendiksen, documented the textile industry in West Yorkshire.

[Portfolio of result traces, summaries of results, notes etc. re repetition by Boys of the 'Cavendish experiment' / C.V. Boys. 1891-1894. Comprise leaves of trace results numbered 1-5 (Sept-Oct 1892) and 10-24 (Aug 1893-Jan 1894), plus 7 other, unnumbered leaves dated 1891-2. With 10 separately clipped together sets of ms. notes, one of which includes letters from A.G. Greenhill (2) and J.H. Poynting (1), all of May 1894, and is prefaced by a 1-page 'History' of the experiment, a chronology chiefly (but briefly) covering 15 Sept 1892 to 13 Jan 1894. Several of the sets of notes make reference to specific numbered experiments as they appear on certain book pages, probably those of his three notebooks, inv. no. 2000-1186 (MS 443)]

C-type print by Martin Parr entitled 'New Brighton' from 'The Last Resort' series, 1983-85. One of a portfolio of 15. Martin Parr (1952 - present) is one of Britain's most influential and well-known photographers. Prolific and successful, Parr is famous for his unorthodox and often humorous style and his interest in mass tourism, consumerism and globalisation. His work is often received with ambivalence, as it seems to display many criticisms of England and the English. A member of Magnum Photos, Parr works with brash colour to portray a world apparently full of vulgarity and wastefulness. His first large scale project was 'The Last Resort', a series of photographs of the seaside resort of New Brighton on the Wirral. Published as a book in 1986, and exhibited widely, 'The Last Resort' brought him notoriety for its shocking portrayal of modern society, expressed through garish colour.
