BASF tape transport box (including tape), 1944. WWII-era metal transport case containing several empty spools, & 3 full spools of German military tape. The tape was made by BASF (Baden Aniline and Soda Factory) in Ludwigshaven & was used on Telefunken-designed & built "Tonschreiber" tape recorders. These machines, developed from the pre-war Telefunken "Magnetophon" recorder were capable of very high recording quality for the time. These tapes (plus a pair of recorders - now sadly missing) were presented to the BBC for evaluation in 1945 by Captain F.W. Trenouth of Signals Research and Development Establishment (SRDE) who had been studying the captured machines for possible military potential. BASF Tape Transport Box (incl. tape) 1944
