Umbrella, given by a Mr Thornton to Sarah Wade "for use on the first journey from the North when he realised that she was to travel in an open truck". In green silk with a carved ivory handle and ferrule. Below the handle is a brass collar bearing a crown with 'London' below. The shaft of the umbrella is brass, the inner ribs of metal, and the silk is attached to a framework which would appear to be cane or whalebone, finished in black with ivory ends. The folds of the umbrella are held together by an ivory ring attached to the silk cover.
