Tailboard type folding camera for wholeplates 8 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches. Petzval type lens; waterhouse stops. Top loading; removable focusing screen; plate holder, largely not original. Rising front; square bellows; side wing strut. Bone inlay reads: 'W. Morley, London'. Overall (deployed approx.): 300 mm x 290 mm x 540 mm.

No lens or lens panel, sliding rising front, swing front, rack and pinion focusing, on front and rear panels, double extension bellows. Double swing back, swing out focusing screen, tripod turn table in base. Pendulum level. In lined and fitted carrying case with eleven book form wooden double dark slides.

Rack and pinion focusing on lens, pinion missing. Serial No 3488. Sliding rising front, rack and pinion focusing on rear panel. With repeating type back with sliding ground glass screen.

Objective lens of 5.9-inches aperture made by Charles Tulley of Islington for a refracting telescope on an English type equatorial mounting made by Dollond. Both elements of the achromatic lens are notched for alignment in the brass cell while the flint rear lens has numerous small air bubbles. The 5.9-inch objective lens for the Smyth Telescope was made by Charles Tulley (the elder) of Islington, London. It is probably his finest work and was judge first class when it was tested in 1929 by Dr W.H.Steavenson. The large flint blank for the Tulley lens was obtained by Sir James South from the Optician Cauchoix in Paris.
