Albumen print by Captain Lewis, Pentonville Prison, 1871. A photograph of an inmate of Pentonville Prison, London, making shoes, taken by Captain Lewis in 1871. Around the prisoner are arranged the basic contents of his cell, a mattress, stool and table for books and other items. Propped at the back of the table is a list of rules and regulations for working in the prison.
