He died in 1917 at the age of 63.

Sir Laurence Olivier is seen addressing a gathering of actors, actresses and other theatre folk at Her Majesty's Theatre, Haymarket, London, to-day (Thursday). Behind him is a plaque to the memory of Sir Herbert Tree, the centenary of whose birth they were celebrating. Her Majesty's Theatre is a permanent memorial to Sir Herbert because of the many successes he scored there as actor-manager. Floral tributes were placed around the plaque.
