The subjects of the photographs are of mainly railways, with some of the Second World War and some of his family. Many are in the typical folders as delivered from the film processors, some in ordinary envelopes. Handford has written notes on many of the original folders and envelopes with some indication of the location and date. There is also correspondence included in many of the folders from third party photographers. Subjects include Princes Risborough, the remake of 'Lady Vanishes', 'La Vie du Rail', Zimbabwe Railways, Army Film Unit and a 35mm colour transparency for a new cover picture for 'Railways Round the Clock'.
