Personal records and ephemera of John Alan Broughall and Edith Broughall relating to World War I and World War II
This file contains personal records and ephemera relating to the experiences of John Alan Broughall and Edith Broughall during World War I and World War II. World War I material includes a field service postcard addressed to George Broughall (1915); a programme for the 7th Herts Cadet Corps concert (1916); a certificate of service awarded to J. A. Broughall by the 7th Herts Cadet Corps (1917); his national registration card (1918); correspondence concerning his admission to the University of London Officers’ Training Corps (1918); and a Ministry of National Service temporary pass (1918).
World War II material includes correspondence regarding the accommodation of evacuated boys at St Edward’s School, Oxford (1939); ration and clothing books; printed government circulars and public instructions; and documents relating to Broughall’s duties with the Derby Borough Fire Guard Service, together with associated armbands and insignia (1942–1944). The material reflects the Broughalls’ involvement in military, civil defence and wartime administrative activities across both conflicts.
