This file contains draft proposals, notes and correspondence by John Alan Broughall on religious subjects. Material includes his proposals for strengthening the Church of England in the Diocese of Derby (1943) and for improving cooperation between the Church and the press (1943); miscellaneous notes written on House of the Resurrection, Mirfield, headed paper; and an exercise book containing draft essays on church illumination and St John’s Gospel, together with a newspaper clipping titled The Fool’s Feather.
Also present are a draft essay on the confession of sins (1947); correspondence with the Bishop of Derby concerning a dispute over the holding of “Devotions” as part of the Blessed Sacrament in the Parish of St Anne’s, Derby (1949); a newspaper clipping on the succession of a new Archbishop of Canterbury and challenges facing the Church of England (1961); and Broughall’s proposals on Anglican–Roman Catholic reunion and on the reinvolvement of engineers in the Church (1967).
