This file contains papers relating to properties occupied by John Alan Broughall during his lifetime. Material includes a copy of the lease for Birch Hall, Ingestre, Staffordshire (1929); correspondence concerning the lease of Chelsea House, London End, Beaconsfield (1936); demand notes for general rates and related correspondence for the Old Post Office, 18 London End, Beaconsfield (1936–1938); and correspondence regarding Ashley House, Church Lane, Thames Ditton, Surrey (1938).

Also present are extracts from visitors’ books (1943–1950 and 1950–1969); and material relating to a proposed building preservation order for Nos. 1–3 Robert Street, Adelphi, London, including a printed report of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government inquiry, with a typed copy of Broughall’s statement as occupant of the second‑floor flat at No. 2 (1962), together with associated correspondence and newspaper clippings concerning the London County Council’s application and the subsequent proceedings of the inquiry (1962–1963).

The file further includes an auction brochure for 1, 2 and 3 Robert Street and 11 Adelphi Terrace, London, containing a schedule of lettings, accommodation descriptions, income details, location plans, photographs and general remarks and stipulations (1963). The material reflects Broughall’s residential history and the domestic, legal and administrative matters arising from his occupation of these properties.
