Papers relating to Laurence St Clair Broughall

This file contains papers and ephemera relating to Laurence St Clair Broughall (1903–1933), brother of John Alan Broughall. Items include his baptism record (1903); a handmade Christmas card; and a printed pamphlet reproducing his article, The Frequency of the Electrons in the Neon Atom, published in the Philosophical Magazine in February 1922.

Also present are menus for dinners held at Trinity College, Cambridge (1924–1925) and for a “High Tyke’s Breakfast” at Pembroke College, Cambridge (1925); a ticket and programme for the Pembroke College ball on 15 June 1925; and a permit issued by the Resident Engineer’s Office, Electrical Engineer’s Department, London, Midland and Scottish Railway Company, authorising him, as Company Motorman, to act as a train guard and to drive electric trains during the General Strike of May 1926.

The file further contains a letter dated 15 May 1926 from the Volunteer Service Committee, Hornsey Division, Harrow Area, to the Master of Trinity College, Cambridge, certifying that Laurence St Clair Broughall served as an electric train driver between 5 and 15 May 1926.
