Pottery statue, entitled "Old Age" depicting a man on crutches, Staffordshire, 1800-1830.
Old age and infirmity is represented by this elderly man hunched over a walking stick and supported by a crutch. Old age or elderliness was not necessarily perceived in terms of age but physical condition. The pottery statue was made in Staffordshire, England, a centre of ceramic-making called the Potteries. It was bought at auction in October 1918.
