Mr O was unemployed and had been forced to give up his new council flat in Kirkby because he could not afford the rent. They had lived in rooms, but the landlord had harassed Mrs O and threatened the children physically, so that they moved into his mother's house. The council withdrew their offer of rehousing Mrs O's mother until Mr O and family moved out of her condemned home.'. Photograph by Nick Hedges.
