Painting, oil on canvas, portrait of John Chapman M.P., D.L., Chairman, Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway, 1860-1864, painted by H. Measham, 1870, presented by Sir E W Watkin Bart. M.P. Depicts Chapman, with long side whiskers, wearing a dark suit and carrying the sword of a Deputy Lieutenant of Cheshire. He is standing on a patterned carpet, with his right hand resting on a table covered with a red cloth. On the table are papers and a writing case. Behind is a green wall and a bookcase. Chapman was twice a Conservative Member of Parliament for Great Grimbsy. The painting was commissioned after his death in 1867. Sir Edward Watkin was General Manager of the MSLR. Unframed.
