Painting, oil on canvas, portrait of an elderly gentleman, by George Percy Jacomb-Hood, about 1895. Depicts a balding man with grey hair at the side of his head, and a grey Imperial moustache. He is wearing a dark suit with a white shirt and red tie. He is seated, leaning to his left with a cane in his left hand. There is a top hat on the table alongside. His lower body is barely visible, partly because the painting is in poor condition. The portrait is believed to be of the artist's father, Robert Jacomb-Hood, 1822 - 1900, who was the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway's consulting engineer and, from 1883, a director of the railway. On the reverse, a Charles Robertson & Co gummed label on the stretcher is addressed to "G.P. Jacomb-Hood, 26 Tite Street, Chelsea". The painting is framed but unglazed.
