Model of a Sentinel steam wagon

Sentinel steam waggon, 1923, model (scale 1:8).
This is a model of a Sentinel steam wagon. In 1906, Sentinel introduced a design of steam lorry or waggon with a highly efficient and powerful boiler mounted inside the cab, and the engine fitted under the vehicle. Many other steam lorries at this time were powered by a combined boiler and engine unit, similar to that of a traction engine, mounted at the front of a long chassis. Sentinel's newly designed waggons were a much more compact alternative, and were as economical to operate as the petrol engine lorries of the day. This model represents Sentinel's waggon design of 1906, capable of carrying a load of up to 6 tonnes at 8 miles per hour (13 km/h). The model was exhibited by Sentinel at the Commercial Motor Exhibition in 1923. Sentinel waggons were very robust, and some continued to be used in Britain until the 1960s.
