Model of the Short-Mayo composite aircraft, scale 1:24. The first commercial use of composite aeroplanes occurred during July 1938 when the Short S20 Mercury seaplane rode 'piggyback' on the Short S21 Maia flying boat from Foynes, Ireland, before separating and flying the Atlantic non-stop to Montreal, Canada, carrying a load of mail and newspapers.
