Wall telephone No. 1, purchased by the National Telephone Company for use in Britain from Western Electric, Antwerp, Belgium, 1900-1911.

This was the most common wall telephone used by the National Telephone Company after 1900 for central battery telephone exchanges, where electrical power for both signalling and speaking was obtained from a battery at the exchange. It used a 'solid-black' microphone. Wall mounted telephones were convenient in a workplace where everyone shared a single phone.
