This model is a duplicate of a half-scale model of the Koenig & Bauer 'Times' printing press made by the German printing machinery manufacturers Koenig & Bauer (established by Koenig and Bauer after returning to to Germany in 1817) for a trade exhibition in 1963.
Koenig and Bauer were the inventors of the power-driven cylinder printing press, the first practical machine appearing in 1812. They offered their invention to John Walter II of The Times, who ordered two double-machines, and on 29 November 1814, the first issue appeared of a newspaper to be printed on a mechanical press of any kind. This was an historic event of the first order and a technical break-through, making the Koenig & Bauer 'Times' cylinder press a landmark in the history of printing.
