1:4 scale model of Miranda X4 satellite and bespoke storage box

Model, 1:4 scale, of the Miranda X4 satellite, on stand, unsigned; and bespoke varnished plywood portable storage-box, by Hawker Siddeley Aircraft Company Limited, England, 1973-1974. Hawker Siddeley Aircraft Company Limited constructed the Miranda X4 satellite model and bespoke varnished plywood portable storage-box for the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE), Farnborough, Hampshire, England.

The actual Miranda X4 satellite was originally designed to be launched from the Black Arrow rocket. However, the Black Arrow rocket programme was cancelled. Thus, in 1974, the Miranda X4 satellite was launched by a US Scout rocket instead. The British X Series satellites were technology demonstrators, used to investigate the outer space viability of materials and systems.
