[Published 1788 by Torre, London, and Artaria, Vienna]. - Aquatint, sepia; image 46.5x64cm on sheet cut to 52x68.5cm (platemark at sides). - Signed in plate image br, M Cath Prestel 1787. - Formerly in an album, sewing holes present along lh. edge; condition fragile, floodstained at corners, on acidic card, but image itself is sound. - Scene of miners at their break, possibly a family group; includes young woman raking trug of graphite pellets; spades and baskets; horses and carts; stages of mining from extraction from pit to washing of ore. - After the oil by Loutherbourg, Labourers near a lead mine, exhibited Royal Academy London 1783 (cat.200)
