One of four cakes of soap (A631019) by Charles Midgeley, Manchester, c. 1940

Public health instruction in the late 1800s and early 1900s focussed on personal hygiene. Some lectures and lessons were devoted entirely to soap. Each bar of this medicated soap made by Charles Midgely Ltd cost 1 shilling and 6 pence. Medicated soaps are generally used for skin conditions.
