Improved Patent Portable Theodolite, consisting of prismatic compass, telescopic sight and level by C. A. Schmalcalder, 82 Strand, London, England, 1818-1826.
Charles Schmalcalder designed this theodolite to be lightweight and versatile, appropriate for rapid military or expeditionary surveys. It incorporates a prismatic compass, which Schmalcalder had patented in 1812. The instrument also features a telescopic sight and spirit bubble.
