Replica probably made by Negretti and Zambra in the 1960s to Hooke's design as a demonstration piece. Robert Hooke (1635-1703), experimenter for the Royal Society from 1662, converted the rise and fall of the mercury barometer into a rotation action for a needle on a dial.
