[Collection of b & w glass negatives of mine workings, chiefly underground, at pits in Staffordshire and Worcestershire / H.W. Hughes. ca.1900-1910. Collection totals over 360 negatives. Boxes V and VI (totalling 100 negs) primarily concern Ramrod Hall Pit, Staffs and Lye Cross Pit, Worcs, showing a wide range of human and horse activity, machinery and tools. Box VII, marked "Baggeridge" (Worcs) contains some views dated 1908-09 and is mainly concerned with shaftsinking, including a power house and drilling rig. Collection also includes negatives of slate quarrying in North Wales (18), and mining in Freiburg (7) and Canada and the USA (58) and illustrations from books (50+).
