The Jean Straker Photographic Archive

Collection of apparatus and ephemera associated with the early film pioneers, William (1855-1921) and Claude Friese-Greene (1898-1943). Contained within nine boxes are various photographs, letters, newspaper clippings, articles and documents relating to William Friese-Greene, his family, including his sons, Claude and Graham and grandson Tony Friese-Greene. The material also includes family letters, studio portraits, negative prints, photographic glass plates, and documents relating to William Friese-Greene’s attempts at motion photography. The collection also extends to his son’s work on colour photography (Friese-Greene Natural Colour Process) and cinematography (including stills from some of his motion pictures). Items also include various articles and documents relating to his business ventures both in the United Kingdom and America. Items relating to ‘The Open Road’ and a copy of Ray Allister’s (Muriel Forth) Biography ‘Close-up of an Inventor’ are also included within the collection.
