Includes correspondence; books and offprints; product catalogues and brochures of the above companies; photographs etc. Personal material includes diaries, and numerous references to his time in the Crimea (during the war), in India (1858-60, 1890-99) and South Africa (1900). Collection of 90 circulars, advertisements, forms etc. relating to the formation of the Lancashire and Yorkshire North Eastern Railway, and later The Wharfdale Railway Company. 1845-1847. Company title changed to Wharfdale Railway Company in mid 1846. These 90 advertisements, circulars, forms, newspaper clippings etc. were originally stuck into an album. They have since been individually conserved. Most are printed, some are manuscript, 1 box.

[RAPRA collection of glass plate negatives illustrative of the history of rubber and rubber industries. Approximately 1000 negatives, numbered N1 to N36 and 2 to 1480 (with gaps), covering the Hancock brothers, places, objects and documents, plantations and tapping, synthetic rubber and chemical plant from the 1940s, etc. Many images have been taken from books. There is a listing of images 1 to 777 and a subject index to images 1 to 567. Many are portraits. The collection was begun by the Research Association of British Rubber and Tyre Manufacturers which changed its name in 1928 to the Research Association of British Rubber Manufacturers and in 1960 to the Rubber and Plastics Research Association of Great Britain (RAPRA). 7 boxes]

Comprises: volumes 1 and 2 which consist of miscellaneous items bound in chronological order by subject, and volumes 3 to 13 which are single, unrelated works. Vol.1 contains material on ships, marine engines etc; vol.2 contains material on stationary engines and boilers, railways and locomotives, machine tools etc. Volume 7, diary of a tour by Field in 1821 through the manufacturing districts of the Midlands, was transcribed for the Transactions of the Newcomen Society vols. 6 & 13. 13 vols ; 46.5 x 30cm. or less.
