Replica model of the first transistor, made by UKAEA Harwell, Oxfordshire, England, United Kingdom, 1947-2003.
Replica model of the first transistor.
Transistors are fundamental to the operation of most modern electronic devices. The first transistor was designed at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey in 1947 by William Shockley (1910-1989), John Bardeen (1908-1991) and Walter Brattain (1902-1987). Their research led to the three men being awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1956.
