Marconiphone V2 radio broadcast receiver, c.1925.

The Marconiphone V2 receiver was one of the earliest in Britain to be made specially for receiving radio broadcasting. Originally one heard the programmes through headphones but later an amplifier was added so that a loudspeaker could be used. The Science Museum used to have another example of the V2 receiver but it was on loan and had to be returned to its owner in 1995. This one was offered as a gift and was accepted with enthusiasm as it had good provenance and had been well maintained over the years.
