COROT charge coupled device (CCD), in black plastic case, as used in the COROT (COnvection, ROtation & planetary Transits) mission

This charge coupled device (CCD) was part of the French CoRoT (Convection, Rotation and planetary Transits) mission that operated from 2006 to 2013. The mission had two primary aims, to identify exoplanets and to carry out asteroseismological studies.

The CCD is type '4280' and is one of four that comprised the CoRoT focal plane, with two CCDs dedicated to the exoplanet programme and two to asteroseismology. CoRoT succeeded in its discovery of CoRoT-7b in 2009, an exoplanet that orbits the star CoRoT-7.
