The Luzo was advertised as a hand or detective camera. It was the first English roll film camera, and was also the first to have the film spools placed either side of the lens - an arrangement that was later used in most box cameras.
The camera was first designed by H J Redding and sold by J Robinson & Son. Redding left Robinson and with E T Gyles formed Redding and Gyles, who manufactured and sold the camera from 1896.
