Beard arc lamp for lantern. Arc lamp with carbon holders for two vertical inline carbons. Both carbons adjusted simultaneously by rack and pinion. Horizontal position of upper carbon adjusted by screw. Height of carbon holders adjusted by rack and pinion, horizontal position adjusted by swivelling carbon holders by rack and pinion. On plinth, for Hughes Lantern. For 50v operation. In wooden box, used with 1990-5036/251 and 256

Robert Royou Beard was a British inventor and manufacturer of magic lantern accessories. He developed a regulator which held the gas pressure in dissolving lanterns at the correct levels as well as the Eclipse self-centring slide carrier, which allowed slides to be changed without the operator having to lean over the lantern and also ensured that the screen was never blank.
