Lantern slide with Chromatrope pattern round static picture of snow scene with cottage and mill. Entitled 'A Merry Christmas'.
Mechanically-operated, hand-painted Chromatrope slide of a snow scene entitled 'A Merry Christmas', 1870.
The kaleidoscopic element revolves around the central snow scene. This scene and one set of geometric patterns were painted on a fixed glass slide while further geometric patterns were painted on another circular glass slide which is mounted in a toothed brass rim and turned by a pinion wheel attached to a handle at the side of the slide.
