A photograph of the Cheltenham Torso Murder Mystery, taken in February 1938 by George W Roper for the Daily Herald.
The photograph shows a road scout fixing a police notice on Haw Bridge, reading 'Police Notice No Waiting on the Bridge'. On 3 February 1938, Mr H C Price found bloodstains, and three salmon fishermen discovered a human torso in the River Severn, near Haw Bridge, Tewkesbury. The discovery led to a murder investigation which remains unsolved.
