
Satirical magic lantern slide from the late-18th century



A panoramic magic lantern slide made by an unknown artist sometime between 1780 and 1820. Hand painted images show seven standing characters.
This lantern slide reproduce images from 'The Humours of the Lilliputians' is a set of engravings by John Bowles that depict characters from 'Gulliver's Travels' by Jonathan Swift, published in 1726. The engravings were printed and sold by Bowles at the Black Horse in Cornhill, London.
This slide includes images of Sir Bandy-leg Platter-face and Dame Dowdy his wife, Monsieur Perukesmore (A French cavalier) and Squire Amorous Great-hat.
