
Satirical magic lantern slide from the late-18th century



A panoramic magic lantern slide made by an unknown artist sometime between 1780 and 1820. Based on satirical engravings from The Humours of the Lilliputians, published by John Bowles in 1780.
This lantern slide reproduce images from 'The Humours of the Lilliputians' is a set of engravings by John Bowles that depict characters from 'Gulliver's Travels' by Jonathan Swift, published in 1726. The engravings were printed and sold by Bowles at the Black Horse in Cornhill, London.
This slide includes images of Barnaby Bottle-nose, Sir Wangle Fee Simple, Toby Rusty, Jeffrey Jordan-Cap and Joan his wife and Jerry Jug Guzzle.
