Vinten HP 419 Camera Pedestal. Made by W Vinten around 1956 in London and supplied to the BBC for use in television studios.

This was the industry standard camera pedestal until the introduction of the Vinten Fulmar. Eight of these pedestals were delivered to the BBC at a price of £800 each. This was below the development costs, but Vinten secured themselves as the BBC's go-to supplier of pedestals for decades after.

The classic HP 419 three-stage hydro-pneumatic pedestal balanced on compressed nitrogen. The first two examples (with tillers only - no central steering wheel) were delivered to the BBC in 1956 and installed in Studio E at Lime Grove where they carried heavyweight cameras.

The initial eight pedestals were delivered to the BBC at a price of £800 each. This was below the development costs, but Vinten reaped the benefit because forty years later they're still selling the descendants of the old HP 419.
