The first Cisco AGS Router, made by Cisco Systems Inc, Palo Alto, California, United States, 1986.
A router is a device that transfers data within a computer network. ARPANET was one of the first networks in the world to use packet-switching to transfer data between different computers. In 1973, the UK was connected to the ARPANET through a node at University College London. ARPANET developed into 'Catenet', which was a bridge between ARPANET and what became the internet in the 1980s. This was the first router built by Cisco to be used in Europe, and was used to run Internet protocols on Catenet in the 1980s.
