This collection of brochures demonstrates the history of the Dyestuffs Division of ICI Ltd at Trafford Park. ICI Ltd was incorporated in 1926. Its Dyestuffs Division was split between sites at Blackley and Trafford Park. The Trafford Park fermentation plant was located on Westinghouse Road, on the former site of the British Alizarine Co. It was here that the company first commercially manufactured penicillin in the 1940s. The success of pharmaceutical research and manufacture at the Trafford Park site led to the company establishing Imperial Chemicals (Pharmaceuticals) Ltd in 1942. Further success in the drugs market resulted in the pharmaceuticals work being taken out of the Dyestuffs Division and placed in a Pharmaceuticals Division based at Alderley Park, Macclesfield in 1957.
